The 5th annual "Faces of Evanston"photography contest has ended

The judges for the 5th annual Faces of Evanston photography contest, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston, met recently to review the entries in the contest. Judges included Lois Roewade, former director of First Night Evanston and past chair of the Evanston Arts Council; Miriam Kravis, a professional photographer; Dino Robinson, design firm owner and editor of Shorefront and Norah Delaney,Executive Director of the Evanston Art Center.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, September 24th, fronm 5:30-p.m.-7:30 p.m., at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St. The exhibit will be on display September 24th and 25th before moving to First Bank & Trust, 820 Church St. Last year the photos were exhibited at eleven different Evanston venues.

In addition to the unveiling of the prize winners and honorable mention photos, the reception will feature music from the Evanston Symphony Orchestra, light refreshments and a silent auction which benefits the Kiwanis Foundation.

"We are very pleased with the continuing response to the contest", said Dr. Stamata Blanas, president of the group. "Each year our contest participants come up with a fresh look at what drives the excitement which is the Evanston community," Blanas added.

A special feature of this year?s display will include several photos from students at Family Focus. Collaborating with the Evanston Community Foundation and theEvanston Art Center, the students had a summer experience of instruction on how to enhance their photo-taking experience. These photos will also be featured at the Kiwanis reception.

We hope to encourage more young people to enjoy photography, "pictures are more than just a celebration, they are a part of our history, too," said Dr. Blanas.
